Tragic Number of Drunk Driving Fatalities Reported Throughout North Carolina
December 29, 2021At Dewey, Ramsay & Hunt, P.A., our Charlotte drunk driving accident attorneys know how quickly lives are changed when someone decides to drink and get behind the wheel.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration estimates that about 28 people are killed in drunk-driving crashes throughout the country each day accounting for one preventable fatality every 52 minutes.
Unfortunately, North Carolina drivers contribute to that deadly equation, which has led to tragic losses over the past few months.
According to CBS17.com, on October 23, 2021, in Wake County, a driver was heading the wrong way in the westbound lanes of U.S. 64 near N.C. 96 when he hit a pickup truck that was hauling a trailer before hitting a third car head-on.
He was suspected of DWI as first responders administered Narcan to “wake him up,” only to learn he was already driving on a suspended license for a previous DWI, according to North Carolina State Highway Patrol.
On November 14, 2021, Fox8.com reported a deadly head-on collision on U.S. 29 northbound near River Road in Guilford County. According to the report, one driver was going south, and another north, when the northbound driver hit the other head-on, killing him at the scene. The at-fault driver was treated for minor injuries and arrested for driving while impaired.
As the last of the winter holidays near, and New Year’s Eve approaches, our personal injury attorneys in Charlotte would like to wish everyone a happy, safe, and celebratory season with friends, family, and coworkers while reminding our fellow North Carolinians not to drink and drive.
